Event of Running of the Bulls

Running of the Bulls
Running of the bulls, which is also known as Encieero, is organized every year from the 6th to the 14th of July in Pamplona {Spain}. It is the most thrilling and unusual religious celebration in the world. It is a festival which attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. It has a long history as it was first started in the 18th century. This event became exciting and popular in the locals who decided to also run with the bulls. This running changed in to the more daring challenge that is the running in front of the bulls, since then this has all started and people enjoy it a lot. The route of running of the bulls has not been changed since 1852. The route is the same as before that is from Santo Domingo Street, through the plaza consistorial and along Estafeta Street via dangerously twisting Mercaderes Street.

This festival starts properly from a mid-day of 6th July with fireworks which are set off from the plaza consistorial. The streets are all decked out and filled with singing and cheering. The locals as well as the visitors tie around their neck a unique red scarf and commence partying. The street does not stop buzzing with music and laughter till the festival that ends on the 14th of July.

It seems like the act of running with the bulls is an easy task but it is in no means an easy job. The runners get a lot many injuries and some even die or lose part of their bodies. In 1995 a young American was vividly killed by the horns of the bull. One of the most tragic run took place in 1947 when the bull named Semillero killed two people. It is because of the efficiency of the local ambulances and hospitals that many lives are saved now.

The total length of the run is around half a mile long with narrow streets marked by sturdy double-lined fences. In between the gap of the double-lined fences the area is only for police, medical teams and the runners who want to quit the race. The spectators are strictly prohibited because there is lot of risk involved.

You should also be careful while running with the bull. One should run a small section of the route with the crowd having a distance of 20 to 50 feet. One of the safest ways of running if it is crowded is to stick one hand on the back of the person which is in front of you and the back hand on the person following you. This will help you to stay up right. Don’t make a mistake of taking picture while the run is on, you can take the snaps before or after the race.

One suggestion for the person watching the runs is to stay at the area near the corner. You will be able to see the bulls coming and because of the corner, the bulls will turn wide, this will make you stay safe on the tight side and they will swing past you. The game is as risk as well as risky so participate in the game at your own risk.
