Learn How to Play Basketball

How to Play Basketball?
Basketball was invented almost one hundred and fifty thousand years back, but still it is one of the most popular games worldwide. Here are some basic things you need to know if you are interested in learning the game.

There has to be one basketball and two basketball hoops which are required at two opposite ends of the court. The time of the game can be decided by you too but national basketball association {NBA} plays a standard game of 60 minute with four 15-minutes period.

Two teams at a time can play a game, each player in the team matches the other player of the opponent team based on its skill and height. Game starts when referee throws the ball straight up in the year and the two centers jump to gain the possession of the ball. Each player in the team is given its position and duty. Each field goal scored is worth two points each while basket from outside the free throw line is worth three points each.

You can advance the ball in two ways. One is by dribbling and the other way is by passing. Dribbling means taking the ball while continuously bouncing on the floor but once you cross the mid-court while dribbling, you cannot cross back over it. Once you stop dribbling the ball and hold it into your hand, you cannot step forward while ball in the hand and you are bound to shoot or pass it to your team mate. Once you stop dribbling the ball and take it in the hand then you cannot again start dribbling as it will be counted as a foul. You cannot even hold the ball for more than five minutes otherwise the foul will be incurred and the possession will be lost you can pass the ball to your team mate in order to advance your offense but still when you cross the mid line then you cannot pass the ball backwards.

If a team has to succeed in the game then its defense has to be spot on and the main purpose of the defense is to intercept a pass and steal a ball for its team while someone is dribbling. One player is allowed get five fouls in the game and once you cross the limits then as par the rule of the game you would be removed from the game. This rule is put in to avoid rough handling by the basketball players.

One of the most important elements of the game is that the teams have to have the ability of rebounding. Teams with good rebounding skill can easily overcome the slow moving team. While making a basket attempt you cannot remain underneath or in front of the basket for more than three seconds, if you remain there for more than the time that has been given to you then this foul is known as a 3-second violation. Basket ball although is not a difficult game to play due to its not so strict rules and regulation. One can play it very easily and heights like Michael Jordan one can really be sure of getting the hang of the game.
